Barmera is on the South Australian section of the Murray River.

There are boat launching facilities.

Lake Bonney at times produces very good catches of callop and redfin.

Bank fishing can work but fishing with a dinghy or yak among the dead gum trees is more productive.

Although depth sounders are not often used in this area I would suggest they should be as callop can be seen among the snags.

Chambers Creek bridge is worth fishing for callop and is easily accessible at both ends at Lake Bonney and Kingston.

Cobdogla has a good camping area and with callop caught from the bank.

A light spin outfit is ideal for general lure and bait fishing in the river.

If you are targeting murray cod you might need something heavier, but 6kg line is enough for most river cod.

If buying a shrimp trap or yabby pot, be sure it complies with SA rules here.

For bait, earthworms work well, but you can’t beat locally caught live shrimp.
