Moorook and New Residence are on the South Australian section of the Murray River.

Both have boat launching facilities.

Launching at Moorook gives access to some shallow lagoons upstream.

Large carp can be caught in the lagoons, but the main stream is usually more productive for callop.

Access to the Black Fella Creek area can be achieved by boat during high flood or by vehicle from Barmera and Cobdogla.

This is one of the most popular local yabby areas during falling river conditions.

For landbased fishos, the bank immediately in front of Moorook is always worth a try.

The following boat ramps are located in the Loxton/Waikerie District …

Waikerie Apex Park Boat Ramp
Waikerie Lions Park Boat Ramp
Qualco Boat Ramp
Ramco Boat Ramp
Holder Boat Ramp
Paisley Boat Ramp
Kingston-on-Murray Boat Ramp
Moorook Boat Ramp
Loxton Aquatic Club Boat Ramp
Milich Landing Boat Ramp
Rilli Reserve Boat Ramp

If buying a shrimp trap or yabby pot, be sure it complies with SA rules here.

For bait, earthworms work well, but you can’t beat locally caught live shrimp.
