Beetaloo Reservoir, South Australia

Beetaloo Reservoir is a stocked water east of Port Pirie, in the southern Flinders Ranges.

It is a stocked water with shore-based fishing for golden and silver perch and murray cod.

Because of limited shore access and no kayak access the angler is at the mercy of the movements of the fish.

The dam was built around 1890 to supply the Yorke Peninsula.

It is now South Australia’s smallest reservoir but had the largest concrete dam in the southern hemisphere when it was built, providing water for often drought-stricken Yorke Peninsula.

Warren Reservoir, South Australia

The Warren Reservoir is a stocked water in the Barossa Valley near Williamstown, about an hour’s drive from Adelaide.

The Warren and Bundaleer Reservoirs were stocked around the same time in 2016, with 24,000 native fish.

These included 8000 murray cod, 11,000 golden perch and 3800 silver perch.

The Warren also contains redfin, legally a feral fish, but well regarded as a sporting and eating fish.

Kayaking is allowed on the Warren, and there are two launch areas.

Warren Reservoir was built during WWI to ensure a water supply for the local area as local springs did not last through summer.

Like Bundaleer Reservoir, the Warren has very little bankside structure, but the fish are usually easy to find.

Other South Australian fishing reservoirs include Beetaloo, the South Para near Williamstown, and Myponga on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Bundaleer and the Barossa Valley’s Warren Reservoir were stocked around the same time in 2016, with 24,000 native fish.

These included 8000 Murray cod, 11,000 golden perch and 3800 silver perch.

Bundaleer’s shoreline does not have many features or fish-holding structure but the fish are usually easy enough to find.

Other SA fishing reservoirs are Beetaloo Reservoir, the Warren and South Para Reservoirs near Williamstown, and the Myponga Reservoir on the Fleurieu Peninsula,.

Bundaleer Reservoir was built around 1900 to supplement nearby Beetaloo Reservoir and supply water to nearby towns.

It is now a contingency reservoir.
